CLARA GAA Club supporters must be in great form today after a deserved victory over battling Graigue Ballycallan.
The final score of 0-28 to 1-16 in favour of the Clara boys tells its own story but in fairness the sky blues made their opponents fight all the way.
The win means that Clara is tops of Group A of the St Canice’s Senior Hurling League while Graigue Ballycallan is at the wrong end of the table.
Meanwhile, ingenuity by O’Loughlin Gaels manager Andy Comerford helped his side to a win in a city derby game in which the ‘Boro looked for a time as if they might grab the spoils.
Depending on what period of the game you looked back on, county star Paddy Deegan was in defence or attack and in fairness to hugely passionate Paddy he made a major contribution to the Eastern Environs side’s victory in a game in which both sides struggled at times.
Outstanding performance of Sunday afternoon at UPMC Nowlan Park was by O’Loughlin Gaels Huw Lawlor who was super in defence and in the view of many would make a tremendous centre half back for the Kilkenny senior team.
Final score was O’Loughlin Gaels 2-17, Dicksboro 1-14.
O’Loughlin Gaels is now second in Group A with the ‘Boro third, a point behind.
Meanwhile, after two successive and to many, surprise defeats, Ballyhale Shamrocks bounced back in style with a 2-30 to 2-12 win over Tullaroan in John Locke Park, Callan.
Shamrocks opened in whirlwind style and had Tullaroan in real trouble in circa 15 minutes as TJ Reid did a brilliant job of leading the Ballyhale hurling orchestra.
James Stephens, in great form since the start of the hurling league, was held to a 0-12 each draw by newly promoted Lisdowney.
The city side would have been favourites for this one but had to be content with a point that however leaves the Larchfield club sitting pretty with five points at the head of Group B.
