Kilkenny Fire Service will this week deliver donated fire vehicles and equipment to Ukrainian fire fighters who are battling in horrendous conditions daily.
Over 100 fire stations and over 250 fire appliances have been destroyed in the Ukraine, and many fire fighters have lost their lives as they battle to save others.
John Collins, Chief Fire Officer with Kilkenny County Council told Kilkenny Press that contact had been made with the State Emergency Services in the Ukraine regarding their immediate requirements
Fire Services across the South East of Ireland donated fire-fighting equipment such as generators and lighting, hydraulic rescue gear, pneumatic lifting equipment and sets of PPE high quality protective clothing.
CONVOY OF VEHICLES
Three jeeps will be accompanied by a fire engine given by fire fighters from Kerry Fire Service.
A convoy of vehicles will be driven by fire fighters from Kilkenny Fire Service who have volunteered to assist in this humanitarian crisis.
Stena Line has provided the ferry crossing for the vehicles free of charge and will leave Ireland on this Tuesday, June 28 and arrive in Poland on June 30 to hand over the vehicles and equipment to colleagues from the Ukrainian State Emergency Service.
