Written in 1964, The Year of the Hiker has been produced almost continuously over the past 40 years.
Set in 1960s Ireland, it tells the story of the Hiker Lacey who left his family home and abandoned his wife and little children for 20 years.
He went down the road for a box of fags and didn’t return for two decades. The pull of the road took him away from all he loved.
This in one of JB’s most poignant plays. There is good comedy in this play also.
Shrughawadda has been producing plays since 2005. This year the group welcomes two new young players to the group, Muiris Wallace and Olivia Dunne and of course the usual suspects are on board.
Cast: Willie Kearney, Biddy Hawe, Marie Kelly, Bobby Murray, Gerry Carroll, Muiris Wallace, Olivia Dunne.

Stage builders: Willie, Anthony William Kearney. Art and design Stephen Gilmore, Lisa Kearney. Sound Aobha Moore. Lighting Ciaran Moore.
