CASTLECOMER Athletic Club had two athletes competing at the National Indoors T&F (Juniors).
Sofia Kerr just missed out on qualifying for the final of the girls’ U18 60metres; Aisling Phelan (U13) won her heat in a time of 8.52 seconds.
The slimmest of margins separated Aisling from Rachel Duff of Gowran in the final.
Aisling led coming towards the line but Rachel just shaded the race in a time of 8.40 seconds.
Aisling posted a time of 8.52 seconds and so secured All-Ireland silver.
The girls are among a group whose consistency in training and racing goes back several years.
If, as once declared, ‘memory is the treasury and guardian of all things’, this group have created many memories for themselves, their families and their club community.
At the National Indoors Seniors also in Athlone, Ricardo Bouchina won bronze over 400m with a new personal best.
On St Patrick’s day, four seniors headed to Portlaoise for the Kia series 5kms.
The two James’s, Kelly and Morrissey battled it out to the finish but couldn’t be separated.
Both posted 16.30 minutes. Lauren Dermody finished in 17.24. Rosa Navorra made her debut with the club finishing in a time of 25 minutes.
