The official launch of the Dr Toluwani Akaehomen campaign for Kilkenny County Council was symbolic. It was on the same day as Mother’s Day and the International Women’s Day week.
Dr Toluwani is a well-known peace commissioner, community leader, educator, and is acknowledged as a great lady, friend, wife, and mother of four.
She plans to contest the local elections as an Independent. At the event she united people of different cultural and social backgrounds. There were representatives from the Irish, Ukrainian, Nigerian, and other African countries.
The launch was in English with translation to the Ukrainian language for the newly arrived Ukrainian citizens eligible to participate in the elections.
Dr Toluwani presented her campaign priorities: community focus, local economy, and housing.
The feeling of community was strong and inspiring. Speakers had compliments for Dr Toluwani and their call to action for voting and spreading the word of her campaign was loud and clear.
Guests enjoyed a ‘river dance’ by the Tobin brothers, and a singing and dancing performance by Grono (Ukrainian art social enterprise}.
Rev Sahr had words of wisdom: If you want to go fast, go alone…If you want to go far, go together.
“We believe that Dr Toluwan1 is setting off on a long successful journey and growing stronger along the way while empowering local communities,” he added.
