EMINENT local author and historian, Jim Maher did a brilliant job of launching the Irish Civil War 100th anniversary calendar compiled by Jim Hayes.
Mr Maher’s enlightening talk kept the audience entertained for almost two hours in our city’s Club House Hotel.
He said Jim Hayes did his best to keep the stories in the calendar balanced so not to show favouritism to either side in the tragic Civil War.
He said it was a pity the Civil War happened at all, that it was a tragedy but that you could not blame either side for starting the war as each was pressed into it by Britain.
He also said there are a lot of excellent photos in the calendar, some he never came across in all his time researching and writing about Irish history.
Jim Hayes thanked those who had turned up for the event and all who had supported the calendar that is on sale in local shops in the city and county.
